Sachin Tendulkar Most-capped Test cricketer in the world, 37yr and 169 matches

Sachin Tendulkar becomes the most-capped Test cricketer in the world after his 169th match, the third and final of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, in Colombo. The 37-year-old champion batsman, who holds almost every batting record, overtook retired former Australian captain Steve Waugh with whom he was tied at 168 matches after the second Test at SSC here.

Sachin Tendulkar will be conferred with IAF’s honorary rank of Group Captain.

NEW DELHI: India’s top cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who is not new to awards and honours, will be conferred with IAF’s honorary rank of Group Captain.

IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik will do the honours at a ceremony here on Friday when the star cricketer will be inducted into the Air Force to be its brand ambassador, according to IAF officers.

Dambulla: Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday defended his woefully out-of-form batsmen, saying he team just needs one individual spark of brilliance for the entire line-up to click in the must-win tri-series match against New Zealand.

“You want one batsman to play a big innings in all games, whichever the batsman may be, especially on these kind of wickets. It can be termed as individual brilliance because you have one batsman batting through and the others batting around him,” Dhoni said in a pre-match press conference.

Sulking will not help India | Ninety-minutes? | Deliberate pantomime acts | Umpires, lost control of the game

When you see fieldsmen, and senior ones at that, performing deliberate pantomime acts when appealing for decisions, you know umpires have lost control of the game.

As a miffed Mahendra Singh Dhoni sulked doing a post-match ‘cool down’ at Rangiri Stadium after the heavy defeat by Sri Lanka in a game the hosts needed to win, it is understandable how he was a touch grumpy. Not that you would find his predecessor, Anil Kumble, keep the media waiting whether or not he was in the mood to talk to them about the defeat.

Dambulla: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday said barring Virender Sehwag his batting department was having a tough time in the ongoing cricket tri-series in Sri Lanka.

The Indians might have booked their place in Saturday’s final against Sri Lanka after beating New Zealand by 105 runs in a must-win match on Wednesday, but Dhoni seemed concerned about his side’s batting line-up, which yet again failed.

Dambulla: India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Friday asked his teammates to do the basic things right without worrying about the outcome in their tri-series final against Sri Lanka here on Saturday.

India have beaten Sri Lanka in four finals in the past two years in the Island country, with the most recent being the Asia Cup in June, and the visitors would seek their fifth successive win in the Summit Clash on Saturday.
